While it can be annoying to cut out some sticky, hard, and crunchy foods, braces aren’t as limiting as some think. Eating while in braces doesn’t need to be complicated or difficult. Fortunately, your time in braces can act as an opportunity for cutting out some treats that aren’t so great for you or your health. Try to consider the foods you can’t eat as meals from which you’re merely taking a temporary break. The general types of foods to avoid while in braces are:

  • Sticky candy or food – Primarily taffy, gum, jolly ranchers, or other candies with similar consistencies
  • Very hard or very crunchy food – Ice, large pretzels, crusty bread

Remember that your braces are delicate, but not so fragile that they could pop off your teeth at any moment! Just don’t consume foods that fall under the hard or sticky extremes and your brackets and wires should be fine.
